The first thing you should do is gather as much information as possible about your job. You may be able to get more money back from your CIS tax rebate if you have more information.
Here are some documents and records that will help you get the most out of your CIS tax return:
Obviously, you won’t always be able to keep track of everything, but the more information you have, the better.
If you’re not sure, just let us know and send it anyway. We can always tell you whether or not a specific receipt or record will be useful. It’s preferable to have it than to need it, and having it could help you get CIS tax refunds.
You can certainly apply for CIS on your own. However, because you’re dealing with the government, you can expect a lengthy, exhausting, and complicated process. Here’s what you’ll need to file a self-assessment tax return with the CIS:
You’re not alone if this feels overwhelming. That is why we have come. In order to maximise your CIS rebate, our experts will scrutinise every last detail. So that you can get the most money back with a single click of a button.
The CIS, or ‘Construction Industry Scheme’ tax, is a type of tax used by the government to collect money from people who work in construction or construction-related jobs in the United Kingdom. HMRC is then notified of these deductions. They are essentially prepayments for the tax and National Insurance that you must pay anyway. This is done by the HMRC to prevent tax evasion. However, too many honest, tax-paying people frequently end up paying too much tax as a result.
You're almost certainly part of a CIS scheme if your job entails any type of general construction work, such as:
- Work on the construction site (such as laying foundations) - Demolitions - Changes - Maintenance - Painting and decorating - Setting up systems like water, lighting, and HVAC units, among other things - Solar panel installation - Post-construction cleaning of buildings and interiors
If you're not sure if your work qualifies, let us know and we'll check it out for you.
There are some jobs that are not covered by the CIS scheme, despite the fact that they appear to be covered. These are the ones:
- Scaffolding Rental (but only if no labour is required)
- Carpet Installation - Surveying and Architecture Work - Making Construction Materials - Delivering Materials to Construction Sites
- Work that isn't related to construction, even if it is done on-site (such as working in a canteen).
Sorting your own CIS tax return can be time-consuming, tedious, and difficult. And because more people don’t really understand how to do it, the taxman ends up shortchanging them.
Our CIS specialists will not let you down. We’ll look over all of your tax information to make sure you get the most out of your claim.
With our service, you won’t have to worry about filling out your Self Assessments incorrectly or missing deadlines. Say goodbye to tedious, perplexing paperwork and hello to larger, better tax refunds — money you’ve worked hard for and deserve.
A subcontractor can be a company or an individual who performs work for another company as part of a larger project. Contractors pay subcontractors for their services, and they are eligible to file a CIS subcontractor tax return.
If you’re a subcontractor, you don’t have to register, but you will be charged 10% more (30%) if you don’t. By registering, you can save money. Give your employer your UTR number to accomplish this. We can quickly sort this for you if you don’t know your UTR number.
Your contractor should write to HMRC on your behalf to deregister from the CIS, citing evidence that the work you’re doing is no longer within the CIS. Until the HMRC receives and approves the contractor’s paperwork, you must continue to pay your CIS deductions.
If you are working over other self-employed workers doing construction work then you are a contractor and so must register as such under the CIS. If you are doing construction work for a larger project, then you are likely a subcontractor. If you aren’t sure, we can help you determine if you are a contractor or subcontract.
